Vermont Youth Climate and Sustainability Leaders

Across Vermont, young people are rising up to demand education and action on issues of climate and environmental justice. Equity and sustainability are at the heart of this movement, fueled by the passion and determination of our youth. This page details a collection of resources, events and organizations collaborating to support, develop and amplify the power of Vermont’s youth to realize a more just, joyful and sustainable future.

Global Climate Strike

Groups around Vermont are joining the international day of action, walking out from schools and businesses to demand climate education and action. This movement was sparked by Greta Thunberg and her year of Fridays for Climate school strikes.

October

Cultivating Pathways to Sustainability

Youth-adult teams along with professional allies from around Vermont gather at Shelburne Farms to investigate the UN Sustainable Development Goals and with that framework, collaboratively design projects to address local issues that build equity, sustainability and joy across Vermont. CPS includes opportunities for ongoing support, cross-team sharing, and a follow-up summit and celebration on May.

Youth Environmental Summit

YES is an annual conference for middle and high school students. YES is an opportunity to learn about environmental issues and get involved in local communities. The mission of YES is to inspire, encourage, and prepare youth for a life of environmental responsibility, service and leadership by increasing awareness and knowledge of environmental issues and fostering leadership skills.

Vermont Youth Climate Congress

Statewide youth congress to convene with members of the State Legislature to provide feedback and guidance on proposed environmental legislation.

Youth Climate Leaders Academy

YCLA is designed to support youth in planning and implementing projects that make a difference on climate change. Youth-adult teams from around Vermont gather to learn, plan and begin implementation of year-long climate action plans tied to their individual learning goals.

Legislative Session

Multiple opportunities to provide testimony, connect with legislators, and raise public awareness for climate-related policy. The Youth Lobby is a central voice in this arena.
